Turkey Avocado Sandwich
This is the fast lunch sandwich you make when you want something filling but you’re not trying to turn your kitchen into a crime scene. Toast the bread if you want crunch, then stack turkey, avocado, lettuce, and mayo. Takes about 10 minutes and saves you from spending $14 on “artisanal” sadness.

bookmark_star Instructions
1) Toast (or don’t) the bread
Grab your toaster, pop in the bread, and toast it to your vibe. Light golden is great. Dark is fine too if you like living dangerously.
If you skip toasting, your sandwich will be soft and classic. If you toast it, it’s crunchy and less likely to get sad and soggy.
2) Slice the avocado like a responsible adult
Put the cutting board down, use a knife, and slice the avocado. Keep it thin so it layers nicely, and even so you don’t end up with one bite that’s all avocado and the next bite that’s just bread (been there, complained loudly).
3) Mayo first (this is the glue)
Lay out the bread slices and spread the mayonnaise on one or both sides. Go thin if you’re sensible, or generous if it’s been a long week.
Warning: Don’t “just dab a little” and call it done. I tried once. The sandwich came apart like my plans for the day.
4) Build the stack
On one slice, layer the turkey breast slices, then add the avocado, then top with lettuce. Keep the lettuce crisp and the turkey folded (folding makes it feel like a real deli sandwich, and also hides uneven slices… not that we would do that).
5) Close, cut, and try not to overthink it
Put the other bread slice on top, press gently, and cut with your knife. Eat right away while it’s fresh and not yet turning into a lunchbox mystery.
Optional seasoning: a pinch of salt and black pepper if you have them. If you don’t, it’s still good — it just won’t taste like you “really cooked.”
lightbulb_2 Tips
Pro tip: If your avocado is rock-hard, don’t bully it with the knife. Slice what you can and smash the rest right on the bread. It’s basically “rustic,” which is chef-speak for “I gave up.”
Common mistake: Too much lettuce makes the sandwich slippery and annoying. Use a couple leaves, not the whole salad bag. Your shirt will thank you.
Pro tip: Toasted bread + mayonnaise on both sides works great as a moisture barrier. Without it, the bread can get soggy fast — like it’s auditioning for a sad desk lunch.
Common mistake: If the turkey breast slices are straight from the fridge and you stack a cold mountain, the sandwich tastes flat. Let the turkey sit out for 5 minutes while you slice the avocado. Tiny effort, big difference.
If you want to switch it up:
Swap this For this What changes bread bagel or tortilla Bagel is hearty, tortilla is wrap-and-go avocado guacamole or hummus Guac is messier, hummus is cleaner mayonnaise aioli or Greek yogurt Aioli is bolder, yogurt is lighter Funny warning: Don’t slice the sandwich on a plate with a dull knife. That’s how you end up doing the “bread squish” and pretending it was intentional.
