Pulled Pork Sandwich (BBQ + Optional Coleslaw)

Hot pulled pork, a soft toasted bun, and BBQ sauce. Add coleslaw if you want that crunchy, creamy thing happening (or skip it if your fridge is giving “empty” energy). This makes a solid weeknight sandwich and it takes about 15 minutes if the pork is already cooked.

Instructions

  1. Warm the pulled pork

Grab a saucepan and throw in the pulled pork. Add BBQ sauce a little at a time and stir until it’s hot, juicy, and not-dry-in-a-sad-way. Keep the heat on low and gentle.

If your pulled pork is already saucy, don’t drown it. We’re making sandwiches, not soup. (I’ve done it. It’s messy. It’s a whole situation.)

  1. Toast the buns

Split the burger buns. Use a panini press to toast, warm, and crisp them up just a bit. You want them golden, soft inside, and strong enough to survive the filling.

If you skip toasting, the bun can go soggy fast. If you over-toast, congrats, you made a crouton the size of a sandwich.

  1. Build the sandwich

On the bottom bun, pile on the hot pulled pork. Add an extra spoon of BBQ sauce if you like it sticky and bold. If you’re using coleslaw, top it on now for that cool, crunchy contrast.

Try to be “neat”. Just accept it’s a two-napkin sandwich. That’s the vibe.

  1. Serve right away

Close it up, press gently, and serve while everything is warm, saucy, and still holding together. If it starts sliding apart, that’s not a failure — that’s pulled pork doing pulled pork things.

lightbulb_2 Tips

Pro tip: If your pulled pork tastes flat, add more BBQ sauce in small hits and keep it hot for a few minutes so the flavor sticks. Dumping in a ton at the end tastes like… BBQ sauce. Which is fine. But you know what I mean.

Common mistake: High heat will dry out pulled pork fast. Keep it low and slow-ish (like 5–8 minutes). Don’t walk away to “just check one thing” on your phone. That’s how pork turns into edible string.

Pro tip: Want it less messy? Toast the buns more and use a little less sauce inside the meat. Save extra sauce for the top. Your shirt will thank you. Probably.

Coleslaw note: If your coleslaw is super watery, drain it a bit before adding. Nobody asked for “BBQ coleslaw soup” inside a bun.

Swap idea (panic mode): No burger buns? Use hot dog buns. It’s not traditional, but it’s still food and nobody from the Sandwich Police is coming.
